Personal Reflection on workshop
Week2 #Creating and Hosting a Website, This week I started using Cpanel, Brackets and Filezilla to build my very own website. I had written several HTML code and I realized that coding is such a beautiful programming language. Basically, this website will be use to record what happened in the class, such as the methods I undertook, the results I got, the thinking I came out......It is a important way for me to my reflection for the knowledge, which help me consolidate my skills, methods, theories learned from class. And I feel this website is like a online living room. Everyone who comes here can recognize what I had done, who am I. This is one of the main function of the social media, it allows people to know each others and communicate with each others online.
Week3 #Web Scraping, Web Scraping is more difficult for me. It is a useful and practical way to collect data quickly, especially when I need a lot of data sometimes. But I found that sometimes it may collect some unnecessary and repeat data, the way to solve this problem is select or delete the data by myself. I hope I can find a more efficient way in the future.
Week4 #Data Analysis, After scraping some data from database, I try to analyze the data to understanding the main issues.
Week5 #Collect Data, I visualized the data form into charts like bar chart and pie chart. It inspired me that data can be very various in present. The variables I choose, the chart form I used both contribute to the different way for people to learn about the details of the data. Therefore, I realized that data is not always objective, because people who collect it or analysis it could be so subjective sometimes.
Week6 #Visualize the data
This week I cooperated with my classmates to choose a scenario to collect data, figured out what variable we need. We digged the data about students's egagement in library to observe their digital egagement in University of Leeds. Then generated a data set.Week7 #Machine Learning, This week I used a website AI program called “Teachable Machine”. This program can be trained to recognize images, sounds and poses. For example, if I want it to recognize images of me, I could upload my selfie, and any others’ selfie, too. I uploaded my selfie and a cartoon character. Then the computer stared learning about these images, finally it export two class which called “me” and “minion”. Then I faced the camera of the computer, the program immediately recognize me as the “me”. It can recognized well about the people and cartoon characters. But the interesting thing was, when one of my female classmate faced the camera, even she didn’t upload her images to the computer, it recognized her as “me”, too. My professor, Holly said, “Maybe it was because we stood in front a same background, the program recognized this element, so it thought you are the same person from one image.” I remembered I asked, “So could I assume that it is dumb?” Holly said, “Of course you can assume it is dumb. Basically it is what this class want us to do. We figured out the power and shortage of the AI program.” This was quite impressive for me.
Week8 #Lecture, Identity, This week I check the google browser advertisement center to check how it track my user data. I found it really clever to collect what I intersected in such as brand, items and activities...But in instagram, it fail to catch my attention usually, for example, it always sent me online game which I was not interested in even after I reporting that I do not what to see it. However, I could confuse advertisement tracker by watching videos I am not interested in...
Week9 #Digital Ethnography, I share a online community I used to involved with my classmate this week. It is a online fandom. My classmate also share a online community with me. We found the atmosphere and culture were quite different in online community. And we thought maybe it is because the user group were different. In online fandom, people sometimes could be really extreme in language and behaviour.
